During the first week of school, the Grade Four students did a cooperative activity. They were giving a cup (boat), a gummy worm (Fred), and a gummy key ring (life preserver). Using only 4 papers clips, they had to rescue Fred and get him in the life preserver – but they could only touch the paper clips.
To be successful at the activity, students had to use their communication, thinking, and social skills to complete the task. They first worked together to come up with a plan and then adapted it as needed. It was a lot of trial and error, but a fun activity to start off the school year.
